Who it is for
Voice-agent product teams and middleware vendors replacing multi-hop pipelines with real-time interaction stacks.
Why now
Within this window each layer published a component that absorbs work previously done by glue: a transcription model folds cleanup, formatting and function calling into one model with 70% faster time-to-final output; an end-to-end model emits facial, hand and body motion as a sibling output of speech from shared hidden states at RTF 0.78 and 5.4x lower latency than the equivalent cascade; a frozen VLM plus routed transcripts reaches omni behavior with the burden shifted to ASR confidence calibration; and an open speech generation-and-editing stack releases weights with a 4-step distilled variant. A year ago each hop needed its own glue and post-processing; now the layers self-compose, which is exactly when middleware margins migrate to orchestration and evaluation.
What would kill it
Independent evaluations showing cleaned transcription degrades on real free-form speech, or that motion-and-speech co-generation and transcript-routing approaches do not hold outside their benchmarks, leaving enough per-layer fragility that glue code retains the margin.
